The crash took place in New Haven County about 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at the intersection of Elm Street and Bailey Road in North Haven.

Minutes before the crash, Connecticut State Police had received notice of the DOT truck theft on Route 40.

They were notified of the crash while on their way, state police said.

Following the crash, Naomi Edwards, age 46, of Wallingford was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, state police said.

The driver of the stolen orange DOT pickup, Dinah Khadijah Nelson, age 23, of Hartford, was arrested, state police said.

“Troopers determined that Nelson was under the influence of a drug and/or alcohol and was unfit to operate a motor vehicle,” said Trooper Rickey Cyr.  “During processing, Nelson became combative and struck a Seymour police office in the face.”

Nelson, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with:

  • DUI/Drugs
  • Larceny
  • Assault on a public safety officer
  • Failure to obey a traffic signal
  • Negligent pedestrian

She is currently being held on a police-set $25,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, March 11.
